Use of Was and Were in Hindi

Was and Were =  था,   थी,   थे.

जब वाक्य के अंत में था/  थी/  थे रहे,  तो वाक्य के कर्ता के अनुसार Was/ Were का प्रयोग होता है.

Subject + was / were + Complement.

Person	Singular	Singular	Plural	Plural
1st Person	मैं तैयार था.	I was ready.	हम लोग तैयार थे.	We were ready.
2nd Person	आप तैयार थे.	You were ready.	आप लोग तैयार थे.	You were ready.
3rd Person	वह/ राम तैयार था.	He / She / It / Ram were ready.	वे लोग/ लड़कें तैयार थे.	They / The boys were ready.

Negative Sentences

Subject + was / were + not + Complement.

Use of Was and Were with Noun in Hindi

Was  and  Were   =    होता था,   रहता था,   लगता था.

जब वाक्य के अंत में होता था/  रहता था/  लगता था रहे,  तो वाक्य के कर्ता के अनुसार Was/ Were  का प्रयोग होता है.

Noun + was + Complement.  (For Singular)/ Noun + were + Complement.  (For Plural)

Note:- Milk, water, coal etc. Material Nouns हैं. अत: इनके पहले 'the' का प्रयोग नहीं होगा.)
